A product usage guide is a supporting document that helps users understand the intended context in which a product is used. Its role is explanatory: it should organize product information without overriding the exact label, SDS, TDS or facility SOP.
Its purpose is orientation
A usage guide can explain what the product is for, where it fits in a facility program, which surfaces or tasks are within its intended scope and which other documents should be consulted.
It should identify the exact product
Product name, code or other identifiers help ensure that users do not apply guidance from a different formulation or similarly named product.
It should make boundaries clear
A good guide distinguishes explanatory information from controlling requirements. Regulated label directions, hazard information in the SDS and facility SOP requirements remain authoritative where applicable.
It should connect the documentation set
The guide can point users to the current SDS, TDS, product label, approved SOP and support contacts so the product documentation works as a coherent system.
It needs revision control
Like other controlled documents, a usage guide should have a revision date or version identifier so users can recognize whether the document is current.
It does not replace training
A usage guide can support orientation and refresher learning, but workplace training, supervision and approved procedures remain necessary for tasks that require them.
