Natural stone को एक uniform floor/surface category की तरह treat नहीं करना चाहिए। Limestone, marble, sandstone, granite और other stones की mineral composition, porosity, hardness और finish अलग होती है। एक stone पर acceptable cleaner या mechanical process दूसरे को permanently alter कर सकता है।
Stone पहले identify करें
Chemistry या abrasion चुनने से पहले stone और finish को जितना possible हो accurately identify करें। Material unknown हो तो conservative approach use करें और test करें; “hard floors” labelled product automatically suitable assume न करें।
Acid sensitivity matter करती है
U.S. National Park Service acid-sensitive masonry पर acidic cleaners use न करने की warning देता है और limestone को particularly sensitive बताता है। Acid carbonate-based stone से react करके soil remove करने की बजाय surface change कर सकता है।
Gentle method भी risk-free नहीं है

Chemical cleaning को testing चाहिए
NPS cleaning approaches test करने को recommend करता है क्योंकि dilution, dwell time और chemical response stone और soil के अनुसार बदलते हैं। Near-neutral detergents strong acids/alkalis से generally less aggressive होते हैं, लेकिन compatibility particular stone/finish पर confirm करनी चाहिए।
Soil और staining same नहीं हैं
Loose soil, greasy contamination, mineral deposits, rust staining और absorbed discoloration different approaches मांग सकते हैं। Porous stone में penetrate हुए stain पर routine cleaner repeat करने से moisture बढ़ सकता है लेकिन problem solve नहीं होगी।
Surface finish method बदलती है

Cleaning कब restoration बन जाती है
Deep scratches, etched areas, lost polish, spalling और structural deterioration ordinary cleaning problems नहीं हैं। Grinding, honing, repolishing, repair या specialist stain treatment चाहिए तो work maintenance/restoration में चला गया है और specialist assessment चाहिए हो सकती है।
