Cleaning, sanitising और disinfecting अलग outcomes बताते हैं। इन शब्दों को एक-दूसरे की जगह इस्तेमाल करने से गलत product, unclear work order या ऐसा claim हो सकता है जो actual process ने achieve ही न किया हो। सही शुरुआत “सबसे strong chemical कौन-सा है?” से नहीं, बल्कि “इस surface और setting में required result क्या है?” से होती है।

CDC cleaning को dirt, impurities और germs की physical removal, sanitising को germs को safe माने गए level तक कम करने और disinfecting को remaining germs को kill करने के रूप में अलग करता है.[1] “Sanitising” की exact legal या performance definition jurisdiction और application के अनुसार बदल सकती है, खासकर food-contact, childcare, healthcare और दूसरी controlled settings में। एक country की threshold या product category को दूसरी jurisdiction पर automatically लागू न करें।
इन्हें simple strength ladder न समझें
Disinfectant हर task के लिए automatically best choice नहीं है। Ordinary dust वाला desk केवल cleaning से ठीक हो सकता है। Food-contact surface को specific sanitising procedure चाहिए हो सकती है। Healthcare surface के लिए intended organisms और use site के लिए approved disinfectant claim जरूरी हो सकती है। कुछ disinfectants sensitive finishes या electronics को damage कर सकते हैं, और कुछ antimicrobial products particular applications में post-treatment rinse मांगते हैं।
US EPA surface cleaners, sanitizers और disinfectants को उनके intended claims और regulatory testing के आधार पर अलग करता है.[2] यह US-specific framework है; यहाँ इसका उपयोग यह समझने के लिए है कि claims और directions क्यों matter करते हैं, India में product approval तय करने के लिए नहीं।
Cleaning पहले क्यों आती है
Dust, grease और organic material antimicrobial product और surface के बीच contact block कर सकते हैं। Cleaning contamination का बड़ा हिस्सा physically remove भी करती है। इसलिए CDC sanitising या disinfecting से पहले cleaning की सलाह देता है, जब तक specific product/procedure combined one-step use support न करे.[1]
एक common operational error है visibly dirty surface पर product spray करके तुरंत dry wipe कर देना। इससे soil रह सकती है और disinfectant required contact time तक wet नहीं रह पाएगा। US EPA directions contact time को वह period बताते हैं जिसमें treated surface को labelled claim achieve करने के लिए visibly wet रहना चाहिए.[3]
कौन-सा action चाहिए: practical decision process
- Setting पहचानें। General office housekeeping, food service, childcare, laboratories और patient care के procedures और regulatory requirements अलग हो सकते हैं।
- Surface पहचानें। Hard non-porous surface, coated finish, porous material और electronics अलग methods मांग सकते हैं।
- Objective define करें। क्या job ordinary soil removal है, specified sanitising step है, या risk/incident/protocol के कारण disinfection है?
- Approved product information check करें। Use site, compatibility, pre-cleaning, dilution, application method, contact time और rinse instructions confirm करें।
- Train और verify करें। Workers को sequence समझना चाहिए और supervisors को पता होना चाहिए कि correct completion का evidence क्या है।
Product name नहीं, claim पढ़ें
“Kills germs” या “hospital grade” जैसे marketing phrases cleaning specification के लिए बहुत broad हैं। Useful questions हैं: किन organisms के लिए claim है, किन surfaces पर, किस concentration में, कितने contact time के साथ और किस local approval/registration के तहत?
US EPA registered disinfectant directions में use sites, application method और required wet time जैसी information को महत्वपूर्ण मानता है.[3] Non-US facility में equivalent principle यह है कि current local label, technical documentation और site-approved procedure actual use के controlling sources हों।
Work order भी precise होना चाहिए। “Approved product से door handles clean और disinfect करें और labelled contact time पूरा करें” instruction “सभी handles sanitise करें” से अधिक actionable है। Food-contact surface के लिए approved food-area procedure और required rinse specify करें। Surface intended antimicrobial product tolerate न करे तो exception document करें और approved alternative चुनें।
Routine cleaning का अर्थ हर जगह routine disinfection नहीं
CDC की general-facility guidance high-touch surfaces को regularly clean करने और दूसरी surfaces को visibly dirty होने पर clean करने को useful baseline मानती है; high traffic या illness-related risk अधिक frequent cleaning या added disinfection justify कर सकता है.[4] यह risk-based approach है। इसका उद्देश्य हर surface को unnecessary disinfection task बनाना नहीं है।
Healthcare, food production और दूसरी regulated settings को अपने sector-specific standards और approved procedures follow करने चाहिए। General facilities article उन requirements की जगह नहीं ले सकता।
Common errors
- Visually clean surface को valid antimicrobial step के बिना “disinfected” मान लेना।
- Heavy soil पर pre-cleaning requirement check किए बिना disinfectant use करना।
- Required contact time से पहले product dry wipe कर देना।
- एक antimicrobial product को हर organism, surface और use site के लिए suitable मान लेना।
- Surface disinfectant को skin पर use करना।
- “Strong” बनाने के लिए concentration बढ़ाना या products mix करना।
Soil हटाने के लिए clean करें। Sanitising या disinfection तभी add करें जब task, risk assessment या applicable procedure उस defined antimicrobial result की मांग करे।
